2 status of Aladin

• on-line demo of Aladin development version
• testers may download it from here. Replace aladin.jar of your local regular Aladin installation by the downloaded file AVO.jar.
• Aladin has new buttons to launch SED and re-extraction
• Aladin has new scripting mode for defining filters on data stack
• data stack/cube has new hierarchical structure and supports folders and subfolders
• colors can be assigned to planes in the data stack

4 status of Spectral Energy Distribution (SED) utility

• demo presentation Aladin/SED interface
• the interface based on VOTable, Savot parser and Java interface classes is implemented and functional
• developer documentation is here.
• SED GUI will be released in the 3rd week of November

5 status of Astrogrid Catalogue Extractor (ACE)

• defined interface between extraction service and Aladin
• extraction parameters are communicated using SOAP protocol
• extraction results are returned as VOTable
• ACE is a technology demonstrator and testbed for source extraction in many wavebands

8 status of GOODS data sets

• there are image shifts between ISAAC and WFI frames
• zero points in image headers are seemingly not suited for the required flux calibration
• catalogs: update of EIS catalog needed to correct some bad values
• NW inquires how to upload custom data. FG answers:
  1. use load from local disk feature
  2. SIM protocol is supposed to support access of arbitrary resources
• NW requests way to trace processing history
• a mosaic service will NOT be part of Jan. demo

9 general discussion of demo practicalitities

• System requirements for demo at JBO are:
  • 1 GB RAM
  • 20 GB disk space
  • display resolution >= 1280*1024 pixel for monitor + beamer
  • Windows XP for core demo machine; investigate Linux for tutorial
• on-line vs. off-line demo at JBO
  • Aladin functions off-line after ~30 sec network timeout at startup
  • SED works without network
  • ACE also works off-line
  • The following consensus was reached:
    1. For the case of complete disaster a demo walkthrough consisting of screenshots will be prepared
    2. Off-line mode needs to be sufficient to demonstrate core features
    3. Tutorials and demos should not be restricted unnecessarily in terms of network access since the off-line mode is always available as backup solution.
• MD: Public outreach people need input by the time of the meeting at IoA, Dec. 16.

• [CDS] implement customized Aladin/GOODS start page
• [CDS] script pre-cooked data filters for Jan. demo
• [CDS] implement save query mechanism
• [FB] tweak CDS image server for WFI and ISAAC for better centering
• [NW] prepare demo walkthrough; create screenshots of walkthrough as fallback in case of disaster;will also serve as input to outreach people
• [CDS+ESO+ROE] perform integration tests remotely and exchange software and test data through our software repository.
• [DE] make decision about inclusion of LMC as 2nd science demo in 3rd week of Nov.
• [NW] work out agenda for JBO demo together with other partners
• [MD] contact EIS people to find explanation for shift between ISAAC and WFI frames in the order of several arcsec.
• [MD] contact EIS group for support concerning flux calibration:
  • ZPs in image headers seem to be M = -2.5 log [count/s] + ZP
  • but we need ZPs for flux density M = -2.5 log [flux(erg/cm2/s/A)] + ZP
• [MD] contact EIS group concerning update of 5 and 7 band catalogs:
  • draft version contains duplicate or simply bad entries
  • extraction parameters are not documented
• [CDS] Once ZPs for magnitude to flux density conversions are available Aladin is updated accordingly so that SED plotter can display proper values
• [MD] release SED GUI 3rd week of November
• [MD,SD] work out which UCDs should be meaningful to SED plotter
• [MH+JBO] work out network access between ROE, Cambridge and JBO in case on-line extraction is desired
• [ALL] specify the core of catalogs and data for the off-line demo mode on this page. FG seeks priority list for data ingestion: For instance, loading all of ACS data may not be feasible in time for testing at CDS.
• [MD] create page that describes core demo setup: AVO team members will update this page to reflect the current status up to a point where the setup has to be frozen
• [PF+TB] Include "type" and "precision" attributes with FIELD elements when creating VOTable input for SED plotter.
• [AR+PF] AR reports exact (Windows) setup of JBO demo PC to PF. PF clones setup for testing at CDS.
• [AR+MH] Keep working on extraction procedure for various wavebands and seek for external experise in the X-ray domain.

Unless stated otherwise all action items are due no later than for the next meeting Dec. 16.
