TRAVEL
Air
Manchester Airport is about 20 km from JBO. For trains to Wilmslow and
JBO see below. We might be able to pick you up at Wilmslow, see
ACCOMODATION below. A taxi to Wilmslow will cost 10-15 pounds, and to JBO
will cost 25-30 pounds. You can rent a car at the airport.
Rail

details.
The nearest major station is Wilmslow. If you are coming from London
(Euston) you may have to change at Crewe (weekdays) or Stockport
(Sundays). It is on a direct line from Manchester and from Manchester
Airport.
If you are arriving by rail or air on the morning of the meeting it
might be convenient to get a train to Wilmslow to get picked up when
we collect people from the hotels, we will post details nearer the
time.
For the Boddington Arms hotel go to Wilmslow and get a taxi (or walk,
~2km). The De Trafford hotel is a few km from Wilmslow so you can also
get a taxi from there, or go to Alderley Edge station, <1km,
but less trains and less chance of a taxi.
If you are coming directly to JBO, the nearest station is Goostrey, on the
Crewe-Manchester-Stockport line. It is about 3 km from JBO. We will
arrange lifts if ordered in advance, or supply taxi numbers - NB these
should also be booked in advance as it is an isolated country station.
Alternatively you can get a taxi from the larger stations at Wilmslow
or Macclesfield (15-20 pounds).
Local Taxi
For departure from JBO, see Janet Eaton at 13:40 outside the Lecture Room on Monday 20th to confirm your departure taxi if needed.
You can get a taxi easily at the airport, but make sure they know (or you can tell them) where Jodrell Bank is.
There are often taxis at Wilmslow station (and there is a phone box) and if you need to call them two numbers are +44 (0)1625 536009 and +44 (0)1625 537434. If calling from a fixed telephone in Wilmslow only dial the part in bold. If you are arriving around 8-9 am or 3-4 pm on weekdays, or late at night, you are advised to book in advance.
If you arrive at Goostrey, local taxi numbers are +44 (0)1477 535060, +44 (0)1477 534035 (if calling from a local fixed telephone only dial the part in bold) or +44 (0)1606 834336 or +44 (0)1565 722054. There is a telephone box in the carpark on the Northbound side of the station, but you are advised to book in advance, especially at the above times.
Rough costs to Jodrell Bank: from Airport 25-30 pounds; from Wilmslow 15-20 pounds; from Goostrey 5-10 pounds (depends on time of day, number of people etc).
Road
JBO is marked on most road atlases, see local map. From
the North entrance, follow the route marked STAFF. Barriers will rise
as you approach. If you
are arriving at the weekend or out of office hours please note this on
the form above.
You can use the UK street map site
to locate your hotel by postcode on a road map.
ACCOMODATION
You should have received an email from Janet Eaton informing you
of your hotel booking. This is at one of three hotels:

We will arrange transport between these hotels and JBO for the Demo on Monday and Tuesday.
As many people attending the AstroGrid meeting on Wednesday are bringing cars, there will not be a coach on Wednesday, you may need to ask the hotels to book a taxi or two to supplement the cars.
Wilmlsow is approximately mid-way between Manchester Airport and JBO
and has shops, restaurants etc.
If (e.g. for setting up the demo) you want to be closer to
JBO, Bridge Farm B&B is about 2km (approx pounds 20 - 25) or we have
the dormitories on-site (pounds 15), which are very basic but have a
kitchen.
