GALACTIC PLANE
Canadian Galactic Plane Survey (datacubes)
Links in normal type are to Aladin screenshots on wiki page
http://www.euro-vo.org/twiki/bin/view/Avo/GalacticPlane
- Default search radius unless specified
- Load > VOtest
- Follow-up with other data - not part of Demo
- Add CO slice at 0.2 km/s (73) and make RGB with new plane green
- Load > Vizier Catalogue Server
- Grab Coordinates and select Wavelength Radio.
- Select and load
*J/A+AS/134/115 Slysh et al. 1999 CH3OH (methanol is only common maser exclusively associated with star-forming regions)
- J/ApJ/51/852 Heyer et al. 2001 CO properties
- Note that CH3OH velocity is 0.0 km/s so probably associated with region or with core (?disc?) rather than jets
- Turn off CH3OH catalogue and select CO points around jets. Note a wide spread of Vlsr - some are back/foreground sources.
- Plugins > VOPlot
- Other CGPS data include HI datacubes and IRAS 4-band data (useful for searching for hot cores)
- Also see Load > SSS
- Select region in S Galactic plane
- SuperCosmos Halpha Survey, load
- UKST Halpha
- UKST Short Red
- Make 'rgb' image with Halpha red, Short Red green, to see Halpha-only in red.
- Could compare with e.g. ISOGAL survey (Vizier) to look for YSO (see Omont 2003, and Felli et al. 2002 A&A 392 971 for interpretation of ISOGAL data in Galactic plane.
- Radio continuum images e.g NVSS and catalogues from several maser surveys are accessible, the detection/not of excited OH and/or Methanol are SFR indicators and are useful in these very crowded and obscured regions.
These data and tools are useful in preparation for the Spitzer Glimpse
