UCHII

UCHII = Ultra-compact HII (ionised hydrogen, i.e. plasma) region produced in the immediate vicinity of a protostar when it starts to get seriously hot. (? Does this depend on mass - does it only happen once nuclear fusion has started or can it happen due to gravitaional energy release?). Usually the region is not entirely ionised in all direction, the accretion disc (later, protoplanetary disc) is dense and shielded by the dust it contains.

Dinstinguish from HII region which is the label for the more extended ionised region around hot massive? young stars as they approach the MS.
