AVO-WA3-network-report-1.doc: This report (December 2002) proposes a set of benchmarking tests to evaluate the performance of Grid middlware components over the network.
AVO-WA3-middleware-report.doc: This report (Jan 2004) summarises our experience to date evaluating and deploying web services and grid middleware, and sets out a list of reccomendations for the future Euro-VO.
AVO-WA3-datamining-report.doc: This report (Jan 2004) summarises our experience to date evaluating and deploying database management systems and related techologies, and sets out a list of reccomendations for the future Euro-VO. This report is also available in PDF format.
AVO-WA3-network-report-2.pdf:
This report (Feb 2005) summarises and analyses general network issues of relevance to the Virtual Observatory, reports and analyses measurements of bandwidth between AVO partner sites, and sets out recommendations for investment in network infrastructure. A slightly earlier version of the report (Jan 2005) is also availalable. Finally, there is a subsequent report (not produced as part of the AVO Project) which includes expanded tutorial material, but has had the sections specific to the Virtual Observatory removed.
VO-TECH Proposal
The AVO programme is building towards the idea of a European Virtual Observatory (Euro-VO), which we see as composed of three parts - VO facility Centre (VOFC), Data Centre Alliance (DCA), and VO technology Centre (VOTC). The latter can be seen as the successor to the AVO-WA3 programme. AstroGrid, ESO, CDS, and INAF recently submitted an FP6 proposal to fund the VOTC programme for 2005-2008.
