SAC Dinner
We will organise a meal for the evening of 11 Mar 2008 at a local restaurant. More details to follow.
Accommodation and Visitor Information
- All SAC members should contact the secretariat of the ESO Data Management Division, Nina Felber (nfelber@eso.org, +49-89-3200-6692) by February 18 to arrange for their travel.
For the meeting we'll actually be using the seminar room in the Earth Science building just across the road - I'll show the route to the room when we go over there after lunch on Tuesday. (see http://rock.esc.cam.ac.uk/new/v10/about/finding/map_bl.html for the location of the Bullard Lab - which is where we'll meet).
Hotels in Cambridge
- If possible, you should book your hotel rooms directly. You can find a database of hotels from the Cambridge tourist website. A map can be found here. Nearest hotels to the IoA is the Cambridge Lodge Hotel on the junction of Storey's Way and Huntingdon Road - a 10 min walk to the IoA. If you need assistance with hotel booking please can you contact Judith Moss (jm@ast.cam.ac.uk).
Getting around Cambridge
- Taxi stands are located at the railway station, bus station (Drummer Street) and Market Square in the city centre. The taxi stands are depicted with a white car on a blue square on the maps.
- The bus station is located at Drummer Street.
- The train station is located more than a mile to the south of the city centre. There is a regular bus service to Drummer Street bus station and the University West Site which is close to the Institute of Astronomy.
- The IoA site is served by nearby buses, including the Uni 4 and Citi 4. Here is a map of local bus services, and timetables are available here.
- There is a pleasant walk from the Institute of Astronomy to the city centre which takes about 30 minutes. This route is to cross Madingley Road, go down Clarke Maxwell Road, then take the Coton footpath to Adams Road, follow Adams Road, then Burrell's Walk, and finally down Garret Hostel Lane across the river into the centre of town.
Things to do in Cambridge: some suggestions:
Financial Support for SAC Members
- The EURO-VO Project will cover all SAC expenses, including air fare, accommodation, meals, taxis, etc. This will be done by ESO, upon presentation of all relevant receipts and up to a maximum of 900 Euros (including air fare, which will be covered directly by ESO).
