A postdoctoral fellowship position is available at INTA-LAEFF under ASTRID (http:/www.astrid-cm.org), a Research and Development Program granted by the Comunidad Autónoma de Madrid (Spain). Administrative issues will be conducted by INTA ( Instituto Nacional de Técnica Aeroespacial, http://www.inta.es).

The selected scientist will closely collaborate in the lines of work defined by the Virtual Observatory group of ASTRID. Activity will be centered in the following areas:

- Design, development and maintenance of VO-compliant services.
- Development of data mining tools following the requirements defined by the ASTRID scientific groups.
- Participation in the research activities identified by the ASTRID scientific groups, in particular in those that will benefit from the use of the VO services and data mining tools, will be encouraged.

The candidates will be recruited according the following profiles and skills:

• Profiles:

- The applicant should have a PhD in physics, mathematics, or computing. A background in Astronomy is highly desirable.

• Skills:

- Working knowledge of relational databases and SQL technologies, XML, Web Services and Java.
- Strong know-how of Artificial Intelligence techniques and their applications in the field of Astronomy.
- Familiarity with the Virtual Observatory project.
- Fluent English (written and spoken)

• Salary:

- Gross salary is apprx. 22000 euros per year.

• Schedule:

- Starting date is foreseen for October 1st (to be confirmed). The position is until December 2007 with a possible extension until the end of June 2009.
